What is Curcuma?

Curcuma or turmeric is a plant, it belongs to the ginger family and has its origin in India and Southeast Asia. In recent years, curcuma root has also attracted more and more attention here in Europe and is praised by many as the “healthiest spice in the world”. The typically bright yellow-orange powder is popularly used as a condiment and even on the shelves of many retailers these days you can find the little orange tubers. Many use both to support their health and also hope to catch a benefit from the healthy spice. But unfortunately, the reality is different.

So curcuma is a plant, but then what is curcumin?

Curcumin or also called curcuminoids are secondary plant compounds found in the turmeric root. Unfortunately, the bioavailability of the root individually and also with the spice are not to the extent to support the positive benefits of curcumin in the human body. For this purpose, the curcuminoids, i.e. the curcumin from the root, must be extracted and concentrated. Due to the higher dosage, the bioavailability is guaranteed and can then also be optimally absorbed by the body through supplementation.

Good to know:

By the way, the situation is different with ginger, here the bioavailability is also given with the pure root. So ginger in tea or in your food unleashes its health benefits!

How do I know if I need curcumin? For whom is curcumin suitable?
